Hello! I am Elyssa Day Yuen and welcome to my blog, where I attempt to document the ins and outs of my life. In 2007 I moved from Hong Kong, my home, to upstate New York to attend Syracuse University. I graduated in 2011 with degrees in Public Policy and Public Relations. In 2011 I moved to Philadelphia to join an organization called Teach For America, which places young people in some of America's failing schools.
Currently, I teach special education in North Philadelphia. Nothing could have prepared me to serve these children in this particular community, or to be emotional prepared to teach children who have lived life far beyond their years. This said, given the opportunity to rewind time and do it all over again, I would.
Among other things, I use this space as a forum to share the joys and struggles of my life as a teacher and to motivate me to make time (and to document) other things in life that I enjoy.
